Camel racing is one of the Gulf's great traditions, with serious money and pride at stake. Dubai's main track is at Al Marmoom, on the Al Ain road. Racing runs in the cooler months, and races usually start early in the morning.

In the episode Paris trains at the Arabian Desert Camel Riding Centre in Marmoom with breeder Obaid Juma Al Falasi and Linda Kockenberger, who leads the female racing team. His camel, Hero, is a 10-year-old retired racer. Racing camels reach 40 to 45 km/h.

Tips for spectators

  • Check the racing calendar before going; schedules change each season.
  • Arrive early and watch the owners drive alongside the track.
  • Pair it with a balloon flight or heritage safari.
